What challenge do you face?

MEET JANA

She has 20 years of experience. She is smart and capable, one level below executive leadership team. She has lead various sized teams and is self-confident, a good communicator with solid business acumen. She is liked by many and often involved in strategic initiatives.

What might be holding her back?

Some co-workers and people in the leadership see Jana as just a good talker and more of a follower, than a leader.

Intellectually, she knows a lot, but she has a blind spot about her Knowing-Doing gap.

She occasionally second- guesses instead of directly asking, because she thinks “I should know this” and rather goes with the flow, than advocating herself.

MEET ALLESSIA

She has 15 years of experience, a quick thinker, very competent, hard-working and dedicated. She is direct and valued by her manager for her open feedback and that she dares to speak up. She is proud of her technical expertise and her ability to get things done.

What might be holding her back?

Alessia is perceived by some as too rigid or too “either/or”. Her team sees her as impatient and demanding. As she applies even higher standards for herself, Alessia is slowly reaching her limits, because she has trouble saying no. The executive team sees her more in an expert role, rather than a people leader.

MEET HEIDI

Heidi has more than 20 years of experience, she has seen it all and is very respected by everyone for her competence and her authentic and caring leadership style. On top of it she really gets things done without making big waves about it.

What might be holding her back?

While Heidi is proud of her record and how she stands for her team, she sometimes doubts that she is really making a difference. And she cannot stand the politics, that take so much energy away from the real tasks ahead. Her leadership sees her as invaluable for the business as usual, but they don’t invite her to the table, when the new strategy is discussed, while Heidi knows, how much she could offer to make the new solutions sustainable and create value.

MEET ARUNA

Aruna is a high potential, she came up the ranks quickly and has led several smaller teams. She is now taking over a bigger one and interacts frequently with the Leadership Team. She is smart and driven, impatient to achieve results and ambitious. She really wants to make an impact.

What might be holding her back?

Aruna’s leadership experience stems from small agile teams of people similar to herself. She does not yet see the value other working styles or abilities can bring to her team. She has a bias for action and quickly stereotypes people, who don’t follow her line of thinking. In addition, Aruna feels huge pressure from the executive team, and does not want to appear not having all the solutions. Some in her team and some co-workers do not trust her and perceive her to put ambition over everything.
